Teacher Slashed With Machete In Osun State As Fighting Breaks Out Over Educational Reforms

Fakunle High School

Osun State parents and students are protesting the new educational reforms as fighting are breaking out.
As earlier revealed by SaharaReporters,  the new education reforms policy not only merged schools with different missions and faiths but re-classified grades which is causing students to fight each other over seniority.
The re-classifying policy brought students at one higher class together with those in a junior class with senior students exercising their authority over the junior ones.
Fighting has been breaking out all over the state.
A fight broke out among students at Oshogbo Grammar School which resulted in bloodshed not only among students but a teacher, Mr. Thompson Olamoyegun, was cut with a machete by some of the students.
A parent said the State PTA meeting was going on in the school when the fighting broke out which caused
the meeting to end abruptly.
"We thought Mr. Thompson was dead because he has stopped breathing."
Another source at Oshogbo said the teacher only fainted.  Thompson was taken to hospital and returned from hospital with parts of his body bandaged due to the severe injuries he had sustained from the machete attack.
Protests broke out over the closing down of Fukunle Comprehensive High School in Oshogbo.  The space will be used for a Shoprite Mall or a parking lot, a development project of APC chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.  Fakunle students are now attending other schools in the area.
"That is just one of the scams by the State Governor Aregbesola. You'll be shocked at the billions of Naira he is enriching his son with through the Opon-Imo project he initiated," a source familiar with the Governor’s programs told SaharaReporters. He added the Governor is also enriching cronies by giving them monopoly to manufacture school uniform throughout the State.
'Sam and Sara’ ventures has been identified in the 'Omoluabi' uniform making scheme.
Another riot is reported to have broken out among students at St. Mark Grammar School.  Sources claim one student died.
At Baptist High School, students are fighting each weekly and policeman have been brought in to keep the peace.  Students and management are protesting their merger with students and management from other schools with different religious backgrounds.
"Our fear has grown more for our children with the brawls," a parent said, adding that she had advised her children to change their routes to and from schools, and also to take off their school uniforms due to possible ambushes by angry students.
Osun State Government has been trying to limit media exposure to the crisis.

Raw Copy : See Obasanjo's historic Letter to President Goodluck Jonathan

On 2nd December, this year, an apparently angry and frustrated ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to President Goodluck Jonathan, a letter that clearly competes as one of the most acerbic in modern history, accusing him of ineptitude and of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.
“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” Mr. Obasanjo said in the 18-page letter he titled “Before It Is Too Late” exclusively obtained by PREMIUM TIMES Tuesday.
He said Mr. Jonathan has failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.
He said that rather than take steps to advance Nigeria’s interest and up the standards of living of Nigerians, Mr. Jonathan had betrayed God and the Nigerian people that brought him to power, and has been pursuing selfish personal and political interests based on advice he receives from “self-centred aides”.

BREAKING NEWS: ASUU Signs MOU With Federal Government, To Decide On Strike Within A Week

Striking university teachers across Nigeria today moved  closer to resolving the five months old industrial dispute that had led to the closure of Nigerian universities by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with officials of the federal government of Nigeria.
ASUU president Dr. Nasir Fagge told Saharareporters over the phone that the MOU signing took place at the Ministry of Education in Abuja. The Permanent Secretary at the ministry signed on behalf of the federal government while the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress  Abdul Omar witnessed the event.
The ASUU president said the Nigerian government agreed to fulfill most of the obligations agreed upon during meetings with President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja a few weeks ago, this he said,  includes a non-victimization clause.
Accordingly, ASUU will call a meeting of its National Executive Council to take a look at the MOU and
decide on the next line of action within the next week.
On its part,  the Nigerian government will set up a committee to fully implement the agreement with ASUU.
The MOU signing followed a disclosure by Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe yesterday that the Federal government had deposited N200 billion with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as part of the promise made to ASUU during its last negotiation with President Jonathan.

Over 80 Nigerians Killed In Bangui (Central African Republic)

. FG says unaware, as others evacuate nationals

At least 83 Nigerians have been killed in the Central African Republic capital Bangui in the latest wave of sectarian violence following months of political crisis, a community leader told Daily Trust yesterday.

The CAR has been in chaos since rebel leader Michel Djotodia ousted President Francois Bozize in March.
Fuelled by ethnic rivalries, the conflict has also now become sectarian in nature as Djotodia installed himself as the first Muslim leader in the Christian-majority country, sparking months of bloody clashes between rival fighters.

A Nigerian community leader resident in Bangui, Muhammad Kalanbai, who spoke to Daily Trust by telephone yesterday, said most of the Nigerians killed in the latest violence were Muslims from the North.

“As I am speaking to you now, there are 16 bodies of Nigerian Muslims at the Ali Baglo mosque

in Bangui, who were not buried because of the violence,” said Kalanbai, who is the leader of northern Nigerians living in that country.

“Just last week over 67 Nigerian Muslims were killed by the supporters of Bozize. We are under serious attack.

“As I am talking to you now, you can even hear gunshots. I narrowly escaped being killed yesterday,” he added.

Reuters news agency reported that much of the wide-scale violence that has killed hundreds in the last week has eased but reporters in Bangui saw a mosque set on fire, houses looted and cars torched yesterday.

Residents reported several lynchings overnight too.

Kalanbai told Daily Trust yesterday that supporters of Bozize were being given protection by the French forces, instead of restraining them.

“The French forces, instead of protecting civilians, ended up only backing the rebels who are busy killing Muslims with machetes, daggers and other weapons,” he said.

He said that the Nigerian Muslims living in the country were “now rushing to the Nigerian embassy in Bangui for protection.”

He urged the Federal Government to evacuate them back to Nigeria.

“We are calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to come to our rescue by sending aircraft to bring us back to Nigeria. Our lives are in serious danger,” Kalanbai said.

He said other African countries, including Cameroon, Chad and Mali, had already sent planes to evacuate their nationals.

Thousands of Nigerians live in CAR, mainly in the capital Bangui. They are mostly from northern Nigeria, and are involved in diamond mining and trading activities.

A significant colony of Nigerian expatriates has sprung up in a Bangui neighborhood known as New Ikoyi, apparently named after the highbrow Lagos suburb, according to online encyclopaedia Wikipedia.

FG not aware
The Federal Government yesterday said it was unaware of the killing of Nigerians in CAR. Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman, Mr Ode Ogbole, when contacted, said he was hearing about the incident from our reporter.

“I am hearing this from you but I will contact our Central African Republic mission to find out about the report,” he said.

Daily Trust could not reach the Nigerian embassy in Bangui by telephone last night.

In his reaction, a former Nigeria diplomat, Ambassador Sulaiman Dahiru, said the situation required urgent evacuation of Nigerian nationals.

He told Daily Trust by telephone that the Nigerian embassy in Bangui should immediately begin efforts to ensure the safety of Nigerians. Dahiru said the African Union (AU) has not been proactive in the CAR crisis, and urged the organisation to do more to contain the situation.

Meanwhile, French authorities yesterday said two of its troops were killed in combat overnight in Bangui.

Reuters news agency reported that the two soldiers, who were among the 1,600 France deployed to its former colony, died after coming under attack at close range during an overnight patrol.

According to Celestin Christ Leon, a spokesman for the African peacekeeping force in Bangui, a rebel commander was harassing people, who called the French to come and help them.

“They came and tried to disarm the Seleka but gunfire erupted,” he said.

In the Fouh neighbourhood, civilians armed with wooden clubs and machetes attacked a mosque and nearby houses.

“We found arms in their mosque. We don’t want to see Djotodia and his Muslims here anymore,” said one man at the scene, who wielded a large knife and refused to give his name.

Reuters reported that at least six people were lynched overnight, mainly during violence targeting Muslims, according to residents in Benz-vi and Miskine, Bangui neighbourhoods.

The Central African Republic is rich in diamonds, gold and uranium but despite such resources, most people remain poor. The country has seen little stability in five decades and France has intervened more times since independence in 1960 than in any of its former colonies.

It also lies at a crossroads of conflict in the heart of Africa, with Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia to the east, the Islamist threat in the Sahel region to the north and the revolts of the Great Lakes to the southeast.

WATCH: Pastor Chris Okotie Shows Off His "Blings" As He Dances With The Ladies at the Grace\Karis Awards

Pastor Chris Okotie, Sunday, showed off his exquisite designer outfit worn to the annual Grace\Karis Awards hosted by his Household of God church in Lagos.
The award ceremony was created to celebrate and financially reward distinguished persons in public life.
Spotting a suede jacket over a crisp blue shirt and a pair of trousers, Pastor Okotie regaled his two red carpet hosts by naming his designer wardrobe.

In a video, Okotie was asked by a female host, accompanied by a male, to name his outfit.
Brimful with smiles, Okotie, excitedly reeled off top-of-range designer labels.

The pastor boasted his trousers were an Italian brand by Pal Zileri Cerimonia, while his watch and shoes were designed by Franck Muller and Lois Vuitton respectively, among other things.

At the point when Okotie mentioned the label of his designer wristwatch, the female host, who is also a church member, asked him to ” show the blings.”
After then, the female host said to the camera: “this is the most wonderful pastor. We are honoured to be under him and under his authority.”

Pastor Okotie has, since, 1996, used the Grace ceremony and Karis Awards to support exemplary Nigerians.
The recipient of this year’s award was Air Commodore Habiba Ruth Garba. The church celebrated her as first female one-star General in the Nigerian Air Force from the northern region of the country.
The event, which started late due to hitches from the organisers, featured a beauty pageant.

Pastor Okotie, a sometime musician and three-time presidential candidate of his Hope Party stunned his audience when he was asked to make a brief speech.
Rather than do so, he asked all the beautiful women in the church to come out and dance to his latest tunes. One of those who took to the dance floor was Queen Ure, the estranged partner of failed musician, Soul e.

This is even as the military authorities has said that, the Boko Haram terrorists have resorted to forcefully conscripting young people into their fold following the deadly attacks by troops in the last few days at the Sambisa forest and other camps where members of the sects lost hundreds of their fighters.
Commenting on the situation to the journalists in Maiduguri, Col Muhammadu Dole, Spokesman of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army said that the terrorists are now moving around villages and other highways to abduct

Man Who Cheated On Fiancé To Pay N8milion For 'Breaking Wedding Promise'

A man has been hit where it hurts - in his wallet, after cheating on his fiancée and breaking his promise to marry her.
Christopher Ned Kelley was sued by the mother of his child, Melissa Cooper after she claimed that he had 'ruined' their relationship by cheating on her at least twice.
And a court in Georgia has ruled that he must now pay $50,000 after they dismissed his argument that the 10-year relationship had been a form of prostitution and he had paid his former partner for sexual relations.
They heard how he had given Melissa a $10,000 engagement ring, had lived with her for more than a decade and had also fathered a child with her.
Court documents also told how Melisa had quit her job to bring up the child, but had thrown him out after she found out that he had cheated on her for at least the second time.

She went on to sue him for 'breach of promise to marry'.
However, in court, Kelley said he had never intended to marry her and although he had given her the ring, he had never said the words 'will you marry me'.
He also argued that the relationship had been based on a illegal pact because it had been a form of prostitution - where he paid for sexual relations.
The court ruled in favour of his former fiancée Melissa awarding the $50,000 (N8m) for damages and legal fees. Kelley's appeal was dismissed last month.

Obasanjo to Jonathan: It Will Be "Fatally Morally Flawed" To Contest in 2015!

photo

An apparently angry and frustrated ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has written what clearly competes as one of the most acerbic letters in modern history to President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of ineptitude and of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.

“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” Mr. Obasanjo said in the 18-page letter dated December 2, 2013.
He said Mr. Jonathan has failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.
He said in the letter titled “Before it is too late” that rather than take steps to advance Nigeria’s interest and up the standards of living of Nigerians, Mr. Jonathan had betrayed God and the Nigerian people that brought him to power, and has been pursuing selfish personal and political interests based on advice he receives from “self-centred aides”.
In the detailed letter, dripping of anger , frustration and what appears a genuine concern to rescue a nation on the brink, Mr. Obasanjo lamented that Mr. Jonathan had become terribly divisive and clannish, destroying his
own party, polarizing the country along regional and religious lines and ridiculing Nigeria in the comity of nations.
Without mincing words, Mr. Obasanjo blamed Mr. Jonathan for the crises tearing the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, apart.
He said apart from using party chairman Bamanga Tukur to cause multiple crises and divide the ranks of the party, the president’s failure to keep a promise he made not to seek a second term is also generating tension within the ruling party.
“It would be unfair to continue to level full blames on the Chairman (Tukur) for all that goes wrong with the party,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “The chairman is playing the tune dictated by the paymaster (Jonathan). But the paymaster is acting for a definitive purpose for which deceit and deception seem to be the major ingredients.
“Up till two months ago, Mr. President, you told me that you have not told anybody that you would contest in 2015. I quickly pointed out to you that the signs and the measures on the ground do not tally with your statement. You said the same to one other person who shared his observation with me. And only a fool would believe that statement you made to me judging by what is going on. I must say it is not ingenious. You may wish to pursue a more credible and more honorable path.”
The former President said Mr. Jonathan told him before the 2011 election he would not seek a second term, and made the same promise to governors, party stakeholders and Nigerians.
The president’s refusal to keep that promise cast him as a man without honour, Mr. Obasanjo said.
Saying it would be “fatally morally flawed” for Mr. Jonathan to contest in 2015, Mr. Obasanjo added, “As a leader, two things you must cherish and hold dear among others are trust and honour both of which are important ingredients of character. I will want to see anyone in the Office of the Presidency of Nigeria as a man or woman who can be trusted, a person of honour in his words and character.”
Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr. Jonathan of anti-party conducts – supporting opposition parties’ candidates in governorship elections in Lagos, Ondo, Edo and Anambra states at the detriment of PDP’s own candidates –, and of pitting party members against one another.
Saying the President had failed to address the underlying causes of the Boko Haram menace, Mr. Obasanjo urged Mr. Jonathan to adopt a carrot and stick approach in dealing with the insurgency explaining that “conventional military actions based on standard phases of military operations alone will not permanently and effectively deal with the issue of Boko Haram”.
Mr. Obasanjo also tackled Mr. Jonathan for allegedly being clannish. “For you to allow yourself to be “possessed”, so to say, to the exclusion of most of the rest of Nigerians as an “Ijaw man” is a mistake that should never have been allowed to happen. Yes, you have to be born in one part of Nigeria to be Nigerian if not naturalized but the Nigerian President must be above ethnic factionalism. And those who prop you up as of, and for ‘Ijaw nation’ are not your friends genuinely, not friends of Nigeria nor friends of ‘Ijaw nation’ they tout about.
“To allow or tacitly encourage people of ‘Ijaw nation’ to throw insults on other Nigerians from other parts of the country and threaten fire and brimstone to protect your interest as an Ijaw man is myopic and your not openly quieting them is even more unfortunate.
Two Ijaw men, ex-militant Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, and a former federal commissioner for information, Edwin Clark, who carries himself around as the political godfather of the president, are known to talk down on people opposed to the president.
Mr. Obasanjo also accused Mr. Jonathan of placing over 1000 Nigerians on political watch list and “training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his killers”.
He wondered why the Presidency was providing assistance for a murderer to evade justice.
“Presidential assistance for a murderer to evade justice and presidential delegation to welcome him home can only be in bad taste generally but particularly to the family of his victim,” Mr. Obasanjo said. “Assisting criminals to evade justice cannot be part of the job of the presidency. Or, as it is viwed in some quarters, is he being recruited to do for you what he had done for Abacha in the past? Hopefully, he should have learned his lesson. Let us continue to watch.”
Mr. Obasanjo did not mention the name of the murderer he accused the President of protecting but he seems to be referring to Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former security aide to late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, who is facing trial for allegedly masterminding the killing of Kudirat Abiola, the wife of Moshood Abiola, the winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election.
Mr. Al-Mustapha was freed by the appeal court in July but the Lagos state government has since appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court.
The former President also called on the National Assembly to rise up and take decisive action over the recent allegation in the country that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation failed to remit billions of dollars in proceeds of crude oil sales to the federation account.
“This allegation will not fly away by non-action, cover-up, denial or bribing possible investigators,” Mr. Obasanjo told the President. “Please deal with this allegation transparently and let the truth be known.
“The dramatis personae in this allegation and who they are working for will one day be public knowledge. Those who know are watching if the National Assembly will not be accomplice in the heinous crime and naked grand corruption. May God grant you the grace for at least one effective corrective action against high corruption which seems to stink all around you in your government.”
Mr. Obasanjo said he wrote the letter in the national interest, saying nothing, at this stage of his life, would prevent him from standing up for whatever he considers to be in the best interest of Nigeria, Africa and the world.
He said he was ready for whatever backlash his letter would provoke from the presidency.
“Knowing what happens around you most of which you know of and condone or deny, this letter will proke cacophony from hired and unhired attackers but I will maintain my serenity because by this letter, I have done my duty to you as I have always done, to your government, to the party, PDP, and to our country, Nigeria…,” Mr. Obasanjo said.
“I have passed the stage of being flattered, intimidated, threatened, frightened, induced or bought… Death is the end of all human beings and may it come when God wills it to come.”

Nelson Mandela Memorial: Sign Interpreter Was Fake (PHOTOS)

The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela's memorial service was "a fake who merely flapped his arms around during speeches", South Africa's deaf community has said.

South Africa's deaf federation has confirmed that an interpreter using sign language during the Mandela memorial was a "fake".
Concerns over the male interpreter had been raised by deaf people watching the service at Johannesburg's FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
Bruno Druchen, national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa, said the unidentified man who was on stage alongside world leaders including US President Barack Obama, "was moving his hands around but there was no meaning in what he used his hands for".
South African parliament member Wilma Newhoudt, a member of the ruling party, also said the man
communicated nothing with his hand and arm movement.
Both Mr Druchen and Ms Newhoudt are deaf.

"He's a complete fraud," said Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town.
"He wasn't even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around."
The interpreter, who translated US president Barack Obama's speech, looked as if he was "trying to swat a few flies away from his face and his head".
"The deaf community in South Africa are completely outraged and nobody knows who he is," Ms Loening said.
"We can't find a name or anything. The organisations who have accredited interpreters do not know him at all."

The government organisers of the event, as well as broadcaster SABC, could not immediately be contacted.
The revelation also raises concerns over security for world leaders
Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages.
South African sign language covers all of the country's 11 official languages, according to the federation.
Attended by almost 100 sitting and former heads of state, the speeches at Mandela's memorial were supposed to be interpreted into sign language for deaf viewers.
"It's a real embarrassment. Its complete disrespect for the deaf community and for what Nelson Mandela stood for and the support which he gave toward the deaf community."

The man also failed to indicate that the crowd was booing Jacob Zuma.
Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter with DeafSA, said authorities were trying to track the man down.
She said: "There was zero percent accuracy. He couldn't even get the basics right. He couldn't even say thank you.
You're supposed to indicate with your facial expressions, even if it's not an exact sign. He didn't indicate that (booing of Jacob Zuma) at all.
It just passed him by. Nobody knows who he is. Even at this hour we still don't have his name."
The government communications office said a statement would be put out shortly.

Pope Francis is TIME’s Person of the Year 2013

Pope Francis is TIME’s Person of the Year for 2013

Many thought that that only logical choice for Time Person Of The Year would be NSA leaker Edward Snowden, but the magazine chose the popular new pope who has criticized modern capitalism.
Once there was a boy so meek and modest, he was awarded a Most Humble badge. The next day, It was taken away because he wore it. Here endeth the lesson.
How do you practice humility from the most exalted throne on earth? Rarely has a new player on the world stage captured so much attention so quickly—young and old, faithful and cynical—as has Pope Francis.
In his nine months in office, he has placed himself at the very center of the central conversations of our time: about wealth and poverty, fairness and justice, transparency, modernity, globalization, the role of women, the nature of marriage, the temptations of power.
At a time when the limits of leadership are being tested in so many places, along comes a man with no army
or weapons, no kingdom beyond a tight fist of land in the middle of Rome but with the immense wealth and weight of history behind him, to throw down a challenge.
The world is getting smaller; individual voices are getting louder; technology is turning virtue viral, so his pulpit is visible to the ends of the earth.
When he kisses the face of a disfigured man or washes the feet of a Muslim woman, the image resonates far beyond the boundaries of the Catholic Church.
