Our leaders should steal less from public treasury – Governor Aliyu

Babaginda Aliyu~YNaija

Niger State governor, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has reportedly said that the habit of looting public funds is not restricted to Nigeria.
The governor said that the problem in Nigeria, however, is that politicians and civil servants steal too much, to the detriment of the nation’s development.
Governor Aliyu is said to have made the statement while suggesting solutions to the recurrent strike actions that plague the country’s education sector and he also advised that public officers should reduce the rate at which they steal to enable the country and by extension, the education sector, to witness growth and development.
Nigerian Eye reports:

The governor said that  if people at the helm of affairs stole less from the public treasury, there would be enough money to make education free in the country.
Babangida, who spoke yesterday at the first convention and election of Bayero University Kano Alumni Association (BUKAA) executives in Kano said, “There is no country that stealing is not
taking place.
“But if we steal less, we will be able to provide free education to our teeming populace, from nursery to higher institution level.”
He added, “But we allowed things to deteriorate to a situation where we don’t actually know how much money is coming into the country, as what is being declared is not the actual amount. That is why we have a problem that our lecturers have to be on strike for more than five months.”
