The Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, has suspended 21 Executive members indefinitely without pay for their failure to participate in the 2013 city walks against HIV/AIDS.

According to the governor, the suspension will serve as a deterrent to political office holders who shy away from attending government functions. This event is held every year and it is aimed at creating awareness on the stigmatization of those living with HIV/AIDS in the society.

At the end of a 4-km walk to mark the World AIDS Day, Imoke said it had become a tradition in the state to create awareness on HIV/AIDS. The governor was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke, Deputy Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham and wife Glory Cobham and members of the State House of
Assembly and Executive Council.
